Haven't had a BAD experience yet! Overall the food has consistently been great. Now there's not much competition for BBQ in these parts, which is disappointing. However, from working in Lake Co and getting to know what good BBQ tastes like from places like Tennessee, I have to say this place is pretty damn good. I usually only get it to go, so my experiences are not influenced by decor or the interior seating areas condition. Which to be honest, I don't feel that BBQ is about that style of dining. If your worried about whether or not the chairs have cushions or the table covers are from this decade, BBQ isn't for you. Yea the smoke is heavy as soon as you walk in, but if that bugs you, then SMOKED meats probably isn't your thing. The Hillbilly is the bomb and the freshly made french fries are addicting to say the least!

Ok BBQ. Nothing too exciting but decent. The baked beans were pretty good. Had the pork and spicy sauce. Very little sauce on the sandwich and the spicy wasn't spicy at all. Pork was tender and pretty good by itself but BBQ should have sauce.

GREAT FOOD, but the entire experience was ruined by the owner!!! He was yelling at his employees, "F" bombs, and all, for all to hear. Jerk!!!

This place gives new meaning to the phrase no frills. Plates, silverware, fresh air--all of it unnecessary extras to these guys. The dinner I ordered was nothing more than a pile of meat and fries slapped on a cafeteria tray. The sparsely furnished room housed not only the modest seating area but also the meat roaster/smoker resulting a dense haze of wood smoke that choked the entire restaurant. There really wasn't much about this place that you can speak positively about. If you're gonna go no-frills with your dining experience, you had better have amazing BBQ. Unfortunately, Northside fell short on this count as well. The pulled pork that I ordered was nothing to write home about. It was tender and smokey (obviously) but it had this weird, soggy consistency. Their sides were a big disappointment. The fries were over-cooked edging toward burnt, and the beans tasted like something out of a can. I guess it was fine but there is so much better BBQ out there. (Later a friend told me that their beef is way better than their pork. So, a redo visit may be in order.) This restaurant is the gift that keeps on giving too. I'll probably end up having to dry clean my coat because of the smokey smell. So, if you have to have some BBQ in a pinch and Northside is your best option, I suggest you leave your church clothes at home.

Meat is GREAT! Tables and decor needs ALOT of work. Tables are always sticky, and I ussually just get it to go. Fries are always burnt, very burnt. But the meat itself? Really good!

Brisket was delicious. Pork was a little dry without sauce but once you add the sauce, yum. I had the sweet sauce and husband had the vinegar sauce, they were both good. We had Mississippi nachos and they were delicious. Definitely a bbq joint and not a fancy eatery. Thanks to fellow yelpers, we ate here instead of round the clock. Price is very reasonable.

I went back here last night for the first time in over a year, not because the food was bad, but because the opportunity hadn't arised. After last night's dinner, I wish opportunity had just kept its knocking to itself. I ordered rib tips with spicy sauce (a change from previous selections that included Carolina and other flavors aside from hot, spicy, and sweet) and when I got them, the meat was overcooked and soggy with the cartilage that I can usually separate from my meat so soft and gooey that I ended up eating more than I could pull out. There were also no bones at all. I may be spoiled from places in Lake County, but these were no rib tips. The sauce tasted like ketchup, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper. My wife's sweet sauce was just the same with only slightly less pepper. The pulled pork had no flavor to it at all except the taste of overcooked. This place was wonderful before, but they've lost the passion and soul a good bbq place needs. I say make the drive to somewhere else if you really want some good bbq.

Had the brisket. Comes with two sides for 10.00. Brisket was pretty good. Good smoke. Nice bark.

The pork tasted like it was already chewed up before being slapped on a wonder bread bun (not toasted, so it fell apart). It was also not very hot and had very little flavor. Fries were burnt. Counter guy was not very friendly but the guy on the grill or whatever at least smiled and acknowledged the customers behind us (not us, though). Disappointing. Interior leaves much to be desired. Needs improvement.

I would for anyone to tell me who has better bbq than northside without going to Chicago

Brisket of brisket. Tender. Great sauce. Awesome cornbread. Seafood Saturdays featuring smoked jumbo shrimp that is outstanding. (Smoke rings on shrimp!!) Real deal BBQ. Real gem of Laporte! Support this business! Outside seating would increase business even more.

Had a couple of good experiences when they first opened, have not been impressed the past two visits. Ribs were tough and bland, sauces leave you wishing there was real BBQ in NW Indiana. If you wanna go for a descent BBQ find Smitty's BBQ food truck.

Tried this for the first time tonight. I had the brisket dinner and Joan had the BBQ beef sandwich. We tried the spicy sauce. The owner let us sample the Carolina Hot Sauce. A little to hot for our liking the spicy was pretty good. We will try the sweet sauce next time. The brisket comes with two side orders for less than 10 bucks. I am stuffed right now and Joan is doing pretty good too. I would order the brisket again at dinner time; but a sandwich at lunch time. The brisket is so good; you can almost cut them with a fork. Highly recommended and very affordable

Their ribs are good but you have to try their brisket...I've smoked my own briskets and can't come close to the tenderness that Northside accomplishes.

Just when I thought that I knew all of the gems that were located in La Porte IN, someone goes and introduces me to someplace new exciting and delicious. This is just going to be added to the list! If you are going here for the ambiance, atmosphere, fine dining experience, forget about it. You will be sadly disappointed. if you are looking for a freaking kick-ass meal then this place is right up your alley. actually my only complaint about the whole experience was that the dining room was as cold as a meat locker. Once i started eating, this was quickly forgiven. I ordered a 1/2 slab of ribs with sweet BBQ sauce. The ribs had an outstanding smoky flavor and just fell off of the bone. For sweet sauce, it was not overpoweringly sweet but was perfectly balanced. You received two sides with your meal and I ordered pea salad and baked beans. Both items complemented my meal perfectly. We started out with an order of nachos. They did not give you nacho chips but they gave you deep fried potato slices covered with pork, cheese, sour cream and jalapeños. It was a real treat. This place is going to be a staple of my diet in La Porte, IN. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Behind the nondescript strip shopping exterior around the corner from Pine Lake is a delicious BBQ restaurant. I loved the pulled pork sandwich. The bread was fresh, pork was piled on and the sauce -- many choices here - was tangy. Not sure how they prepared my wife's chicken breast. It wasn't fried but a mouth-watering baked-in glaze covered it and kept the white meat moist. Highly recommended and very affordable.

I've had some fantastic ribs from this place, but lately, when the owner isn't there, the chicken and the ribs end up over cooked and over sauced. I had food from them yesterday, and was so excited about what I was about to eat only to end up highly unsatisfied and even a bit angry about what I ate as compared to their prices.
